An app from Restoration Soul Care

Unearthed

Quit porn, together.

For years nobody knew I was looking at porn. I was certain that if anyone found out, they'd hate me or leave. The hiding is what kept me trapped.

Unearthed is the app I wish I'd had. Not a watchdog. Not a streak counter. A pause where the urge hits, a question about what's underneath it, and one person who hears from you sooner than you want to tell them.

You can always get through. It just won't stay hidden.

What it is

Four things, and that's the whole app.

  • A pause between the urge and the app you reached for, long enough to notice what's actually driving it
  • A short check-in each day: head, heart, body, spirit. Four questions, about a minute.
  • One person who hears from you when it matters, in your own words, sent by you
  • Blocking, if you want it. It comes at the end of setup, after the part that does the real work.
What it isn't

Four things it refuses to be.

  • Surveillance No screenshots, no scanning, no reports going to anyone. Nobody sees what you looked at, including us.
  • A streak There's no number to lose. A bad day doesn't erase anything, and you won't be starting over.
  • A lock You can always get through. It costs you twenty seconds and it gets recorded, but the door isn't bolted.
  • Something you do by yourself That's the whole idea.

The behavior is rarely the real problem. It's what shows up when something underneath isn't being dealt with. Everything here is built to get at that.

Don't do this alone

The app works best when it's not the only thing in your corner.

Restoration Soul Care runs small men's groups, in person in Louisville and online from anywhere.

Five men, ten weeks, honest conversation.

If you don't have a person to name in the app yet, a group is where you find one.

Questions

The things people ask before they download.

Is this only about porn?

That's what it was built for, and it's my own story. But the app never names your struggle and never needs to know it. If you reach for something compulsively and hiding it is part of the pattern, the same mechanics apply.

Does the app ever text anyone for me?

Never. Every message is written by you, or pre-filled for you to edit, and sent by your own thumb from your own Messages app. Nothing goes to anyone automatically. Not to your person, not to us, not to anybody.

What happens to everything I log?

It stays on your phone. All of it. Check-ins, urges, everything you type lives in a database on your device and nowhere else. There's no account, no cloud, no server, and no analytics watching you. If you delete your data, it's gone, because there was never another copy.

What's the clock on my home screen?

If you push through and open a blocked app anyway, a clock starts counting the hours until someone knows. It isn't punishment and nothing gets sent. It just refuses to let the moment quietly disappear. It stops the second you tell your person.

If I walk away from a blocked app, do I still have to tell someone?

No. Walking away is the win. The app records that the moment happened, offers you the option to mention it to your person, and asks nothing more. The clock only starts when you go through anyway.

Why can I always get through?

Because a lock you can't open teaches you to fight the lock, and you'll win. Every blocker can be beaten by an uninstall. Unearthed doesn't try to cage you. It makes sure that getting through costs a pause and doesn't stay secret. Honesty is the mechanism, not restraint.

Why does the app unlock for 15 minutes when I continue anyway?

Because your decision deserves a real result, but it shouldn't buy the whole night. Urges crest and pass. After 15 minutes the block returns on its own, and getting through again takes a fresh, deliberate choice. A hard night becomes a series of honest decisions instead of one open door until morning.

Why do I have to open Unearthed instead of deciding right on the block screen?

Apple limits what a block screen can show to a title and two buttons. So the block screen stops you, and one tap on the notification brings you into the app, where the real moment happens: where you are, what you're feeling, and your three choices. The trip over is part of the pause.

What are the two buttons on the block screen?

Exactly what they say. "Open Unearthed" brings you into the app to decide with your eyes open. "Close" closes the app you reached for and you go on with your night. Both get remembered. Neither one is failure.

Is the check-in daily, or just when I'm struggling?

Daily, and it takes about a minute. The daily rhythm is where your pattern shows up, and the pattern is where the real work is. The "I'm struggling" button is separate. It's there for the moment itself, any time.

What does "Not hearing anything right now" mean in the Spirit question?

It means exactly that, and it's a legitimate answer. Some seasons are quiet. Recording the quiet honestly beats manufacturing something you didn't hear.

How many apps should I block?

Two or three. The places it actually starts, which for most people is the browser and one or two apps. Block twenty and the pause fires all day for ordinary reasons until it stops meaning anything.

What if I don't have anyone to name?

Start anyway. The app works without a person, and it will keep gently asking, because one other person is the part that actually changes this. It doesn't have to be the perfect person. It has to be someone who'll answer. And if there's truly no one, that's what the groups are for.

Should my wife or husband be my person?

Usually not, and not because they don't deserve honesty. They do, and that's its own work. But a spouse is too close to the harm to also be the person you call when the urge hits. It puts them in a policing role and turns every disclosure into a conversation about the relationship instead of about you. Pick someone who can hear the truth and stay level. If your spouse is the only person you've got, name them for now and keep looking.

What happens if I just delete the app?

Nothing stops you, and no alarm goes off anywhere, because nothing about you lives on a server. But your covenant includes a line about exactly this: if I ever delete this app, I'll tell my person first. You signed it, they read it, and that's the point. The app was never the thing holding you. They are.

Is it on Android?

Not yet. iPhone first, Android is planned.

How much does it cost?

It's free during early access. If that changes, current users will hear it from us first, plainly, with no surprise charges.
